Oregon welcomed me across the border with a rainbow and just a little spritz. I got ready early (for me!) and rolled from the motel by 7:45.

I’ve got all day now. Maps says I’ll be there by 3pm! Plenty of time for stops. Normally when I’m in traffic I’m just waiting for a chance to (safely!) pass or wait for them to move aside or turn. The next few days I’m going to search for the zen of just following in traffic.

The fun and relaxing part of the road trip really begins here. Yesterday was just about covering miles.

Face Rock Scenic Viewpoint, Bandon, OR

I strayed from US-101 onto Beach Loop Road just south of Bandon, following the signs for the “Charleston to Bandon Scenic Tour Route”. This led me to the Face Rock Scenic Viewpoint. If I’d stayed on 101, I would have sailed by without even seeing this dramatic stretch of coastline.

“It was worth the diversion” would prove to be a recurring theme of the trip. Like the sticker on my bike says: Take the Scenic Route.
